About me

Autobiography — Photographer Alex Po

Hi! My name is Alex, and I’m happy to see you on my website 🙂

Ohh, this autobiography … I’ll be honest, just listing dry facts about myself isn’t very interesting, but saying too much feels a little awkward — so I’ll try to find a balance between the two!

I’ve been a photographer for more than 15 years, since 2011. And interestingly, my journey started right here in the Dominican Republic! Later, I traveled a lot and worked as a photographer in many other places, but this is where it all began. A long time ago, there was a travel company in Punta Cana called Travel Service. Back in 2010, a close friend of mine worked there as a programmer. One day while we were talking, he told me that the company was looking for photographers. I was very young at the time and ready for any adventure. So, without thinking too much, I bought a camera and traveled to the other side of the world in search of a new life. I was born and lived in Crimea, and the Dominican Republic was really far away. First, I had to get to Moscow, and then it was a 13-hour flight to Punta Cana. Those were good times …

The Dominican Republic was very welcoming from my first day, with wonderful people and comfortable weather. I immediately fell in love with this country ❤️ I worked in Punta Cana for about a year and then returned home to Crimea. I worked as a photographer in Russia and Ukraine, and later in Europe. I photographed weddings in Italy, Spain, France, Austria, Poland, and Greece. I also lived in Canada for several years, where I photographed weddings as well. During all those years, I came back to the Dominican Republic a few times and stayed for 1 — 2 years at a time. In 2026, I returned home, but not to Crimea — to my beloved Dominican Republic. Over the years, I have lived in different countries, but this is where I feel peace of mind and true happiness. Our world is changing, and you could say that many things have changed in the Dominican Republic too. But for me, it still feels peaceful and calm here.

Today, I work as a photographer in Punta Cana and throughout the Dominican Republic. Over the years, I have done more than 1,000 different photo shoots here in the Dominican Republic, and many more around the world. I focus on real emotions and capturing you as you truly are, when you’re not thinking about posing. When you’re simply living in the moment and enjoying it. My photography style is quite classic, with calm and natural colors, clean and even light, and happy emotions. I try to make your photo shoot feel less like work and more like a relaxing experience. I want it to become another positive memory from your time in the sunny Dominican Republic.

I have also traveled extensively around the entire island. I have visited some of the most remote parts of the country many times, including two trips to Haiti. In my blog, I want to share my experience with many different things. I have spent a lot of time learning about the questions that matter to visitors to the Dominican Republic — seaweed on Bavaro Beach, the best time for a photo shoot, what to wear for a beach photo shoot, and more. So I hope my experience will be useful to you, and thank you for your attention 🙂
